When it comes to contact lenses, keeping them clean is one of the most fundamental parts of visibility. Here are 6 simple steps to better help care for your contact lenses.
Step 1: The first and most basic step to properly care for your contacts is to simply wash your hands with soap and water before the cleaning process. Keeping your hands clean will ensure that your contacts won’t get dirty or damaged. Once rinsed off, make sure you dry your hands with either paper towels or lint-free cloth. This step is essential for the following steps.
Step 2: Prepare the contact lenses case for the next steps. Rinse your case and add your solution. Keeping the case ready for the cleaning process is important to keeping your contacts clean.
Step 3: Since you already followed Step 1 (washing your hands with soap and water), you are now ready to place the contact in the palm of your hand. Make sure that the part that goes on your eye is face up. Place one drop of your cleaning solution on the lens, and let it soak. Gently move your finger up and down and then left and right in a cross motion. To properly clean the contact, do not move in circles.
Step 4: Now place the contacts back in their case. Make sure it is properly sealed.
Step 5: Lightly shake the case with the contacts inside. This helps to rid the contacts of any lingering dirt. If the lenses are extremely dirty, have them sit in the case for several hours.
Step 6: Still bothering you? If your contacts irritate your eyes after this cleaning process, that means they are damaged not dirty. Throw them out and use your next set of contacts.
If for whatever reasons your next set of contacts lenses are still bothering you, then you will need to see your optometrist. It could be time for a new prescription!
